My background and some concerns

I should start by saying I've never kept a blog before, so this whole experience is new to me.

A little bit regarding my background. I am a transfer student and this is my first semester at U of T. I completed a three year Computer Science Technology program at Sheridan College last December. I also have 16 months of coop experience as part of that program, where I worked for the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) and Canadian Tire. Through all of this, I have gained a much more practical background.

My theoretical and mathematical background isn't quite as strong and I've struggled with this course so far. I'm understanding the basic concepts. However, I think where I'm getting hung up is that I'm lacking some of the mathematical skills I would have further developed in first year, so I have difficulties identifying some of the key insights required for the induction proofs. I am able to follow along with the examples during lectures, but it takes me a lot longer to recognize some of the insights when I'm working on the proofs on my own.

Which leads to my main concern regarding the first term test this Friday. I'm a little worried about being able to complete the entire test within the 50 minute time limit. I plan to continue to read over the lecture notes and examples done in class, go over the problem sets and assignment 1 again, as well as read parts of the course notes again. Hopefully that will be enough to adequately prepare me for the test.
